Individuals who own software applications such as Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Word automatically have access to a wide range of fonts. However, there are times when you want something a little different. Perhaps you want an intriguing 3D font to liven up your posters, or maybe you would like a festive Christmas font to spruce up your Christmas letters.
Now finding unique and special fonts is not all that hard. All you have to do is head online (or drive to your local computer shop) where you will find a whole host of commercial font packages, generally costing somewhere between 20 and 60 dollars a piece. The question we have is: why would you pay for fonts when there are a wide variety available free online?
One of the best locations to grab free fonts is 1001 Free Fonts. As expected, this site contains 1001 unique and oftentimes cool fonts which are grouped alphabetically as well as categorically. The main reason why we love this site so much is that it provides samples of each font; furthermore, it allows you to create your own custom samples online. This way you need not download hundred of files only to find out that most of them are not to your liking. Another major strength of this website is that it allows you to download fonts in both Windows and Mac OS X format. All in all, this is a robust site which is easy on the eyes and has a great navigation system.
Another excellent website is Simply the Best – Fonts. Fonts are categorized and easy to view via a preview window. Furthermore, as above, most can be downloaded in Windows or Mac OSX format depending upon your operating system. It is important to note, however, that some fonts on this site are free while others are commercial. Free fonts can generally be used without attribution for personal or commercial endeavors. Commercial fonts, on the other hand, generally need to be purchased before being used for commercial (and sometimes personal) purposes. Nonetheless, this is another great site if you are looking for different artistic possibilities.
